Social Media Demographics Infographic: Who’s Using What?

I love a good infographic. There’s nothing like getting an eyeful of info in one sweep of the page. And there’s a lot of stats in this one, all focusing on who social media users are and where they come from.
How old are Facebookers vs other social media site users? Do they skew male or female? And in which countries are people networking their fingers off? Ad Age compiled some stats from Pew Research, Google Ad Planner, LinkedIn, MySpace, the U.S. Census Bureau and Facebook, and then dished up an infographic illustrating all the deets, including:

  • 86.5% of women list cat ownership on their Facebook profiles, whereas 13.5% of men do so.
  • Less than 10% of the population uses Twitter.
  • 35 years of age is the gender tipping point: More Facebook users under 35 are male, but go older, and females are the majority demographic.
  • On LinkedIn, the reverse of the above stat is true: Unsurprisingly, younger guys seem to think LinkedIn is kind of lame (compared to girls), though the 35 and older set makes up for it.
  • Their Facebook profiles reveal that married women are more into sports (at 63.7%) than their single counterparts (53.2%).

Perhaps the most surprising nugget in here is that anyone is still using MySpace at all, but maybe that’s just me. For more fascinating factoids, check out the infographic below.
